Week 4

This week we had the initial ‘pitch’ presentations. These were held in small groups, four students in each to two who are experienced with the industry. The main point of feedback that I got was that the auditorium is too much for this project. Things like levers and sandbags for the curtain would have to be very exact and research would take up a lot of time that would be better spent in actual production. What they said makes sense so, with some remorse, the auditorium will be scrapped for this project (maybe to be added on at a later date, but not as part of the thesis project). As far the “mini project” portion of this process, I have decided on making a ‘practice room.’ This will allow me to hone down on appearance while creating assets that will also be used within the band room itself.

For the lights, themselves I plan to use a combination of the in-engine lighting and an emissive map on the object itself. This will allow me to have control on the intensity of light, while giving the appearance that it is all coming from the object intended to be the light.

I have also been modeling within Maya. For now, some of the more repetitive objects, such as chairs and music stands, as well as floors walls and ceilings.
